1. Production Associate

Start**: Nov 1, 2021

Hours: 20 - 30 per week

Wage: $20 - $25 per hour

Location: Ottawa, ON

Description

The Box Of Life is on a mission to make our society more circular by helping people convert their kitchen waste into living soil to feed local flora. We are looking to expand our manufacturing capabilities by hiring a production associate skilled in woodworking (metalworking is an added bonus) who can help us build the Worm Studio as well as expand our product offerings by creating new products.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Manufacturing the Worm Studio from cedar boards
  • Inventory management and raw material procurement
  • Supplier relationship management
  • Shop maintenance and upgrades  

Knowledge and skills

  • Passionate about the environment and social causes
  • 2+ years experience in woodworking
  • Experience in a production or manufacturing environment
  • Comfortable using miter saw, table saw, planer, jointer and other power tools
  • Metal fabrication and welding is a desirable skill in our ideal candidate  

**Must be 30 years or younger at the start of the contract to be eligible for the government's youth funding program.

2. School Engagement Coordinator

Hours: 20 - 30 per week

Wage: $20 - $25 per hour

Location: Ottawa, ON

Description

A worm bin is a great classroom learning tool to teach children about nature, a circular food system and composting! We want to help Ottawa's classrooms adopt wormies as their classroom pets and help teachers to use the worm bin as a learning aid and a practical solution to compost fruit and veggie scraps from snack boxes!

Duties and responsibilities

  • Create relationships with school principals, board members and teachers in Ottawa to encourage adoption of worm bins in their classrooms
  • Conduct hands-on demonstration on vermicomposting 101 in classrooms across Ottawa
  • Build curriculum for teachers on vermicomposting to help them use the worm bin as a learning tool
  • Engage with school stakeholders to facilitate the creation of outdoor composting learning greenspaces

Knowledge and skills

  • Practical knowledge of vermicomposting, composting, soil health and permaculture
  • Great people skills specially with children
  • Experience with creating Ontario classroom curriculum for different grades
