I am so happy to have found the box of life!! I am a librarian in Guelph, and decided to add the box of life to my library / learning commons in order to teach students about the importance of worms and composting, and the important cycle that helps our food and plants grow!
The box was so easy to set up, and I can confirm that a month in, it does not smell at all! I love being able to open up the box and show students what is happening with our leftover scraps.
Our plan for the worm castings is to add them to our school vegetable garden, which we grew from seeds!
Thank you to Audra for always offering engaging workshops for our students. Worm culture is growing in the OCSB.
My students and I absolutely love our Box of Life For School. We love checking in on our little wormies, and the students very excitedly hand me scraps of food throughout the week. Feeding time is always exciting as we all gather round to see how things are going. I teach grades 6 and 7 and both groups are equally excited and invested in the worms!
I highly recommend this amazing program - it is so easy to care for the worms (no smell, no fruit flies!!), and it has a huge positive impact.
We had such a wonderful time with our worm school workshops. Audra was a wonderful presenter and was able to really engage the students! The students were so eager to learn about the worms and to be able to keep the worm boxes in their classrooms. I would definitely recommend this workshop to any teacher looking to enhance their students knowledge of composting or environmental impacts/footprints should definitely have The Box of Life at their school!
After working for a few years with Box of Lifeâs vermicomposter at our community garden, I sponsored several worm farms and workshops for schools over the last two years; itâs wonderful to see the interest that both teachers and students express in diverting food scraps from the landfill, thereby reducing methane gas. Glad to read that the list of interested classrooms is growing. A win-win situation for all.
