Composting is green infrastructure

Hey green infrastructure folks đŸŒ±

When you’re designing climate-resilient cities can you PLEASE include composting and soil building in your toolkit?

Alongside sponge cities, mini forests, green roofs, and rain gardens, community-scale composting delivers massive impact:
♻ Recycles food waste
💹 Prevents landfill methane
🌿 Creates incredible natural fertilizer -> it sequesters CO2
đŸ‘©đŸŒŸ Supports local green jobs
đŸ‘šđŸ‘©đŸ‘§đŸ‘Š Engages the community -> wormies are huge crowd-pullers
🎉 And yes
 it’s genuinely FUN!

Have you seen the Worm Hotel projects in the Netherlands? đŸ‡łđŸ‡±

We’ve launched something similar in Ottawa - worm benches to compost food scraps.

If we’re serious about regenerative urban design, organics recycling must be part of green infrastructure.

Earthworms are nature’s recyclers and they belong in our cities. đŸȘ±

If you’re working on green infrastructure, urban planning, or community sustainability, I’d love to connect and share easy soil-building solutions for your next project. You can reach me at akil@theboxoflife.com.
