Nature Nocturne experience

Nature Nocturne experience

We were invited by the Ottawa Museum Of Nature to create a vermicomposting experience at the November 2024 Nature Nocturne event where the theme of the night was decomposition. We set up a large vermicomposting exhibit in their bug room (which ironically was lacking any information about earthworms) with our worm farms and microscopes. In this bilingual event, we connected with hundreds of guests who had never heard about it before but were curious about how to compost with earthworms.

We guided onlookers to explore the worm bins, interact with the ecosystem and watch the decomposition process in action right in front of their eyes. People were really surprised at observing that there were no smells or flies and that process was clean and simple. They could observe the earthworms under the microscope, watch them eat and poop - earthworms have basically one long tube from their mouth to butt and they're constantly ingesting, digesting and pooping out material.

Our goal was to encourage people to see how practical it is to build soil from waste, and we even budgeted for a Worm Studio giveaway to people who entered our raffle. This whole event lasted for 6 hours and we had a blast creating this wormy experience for the Musuem!
