The Worm Studio is a beautiful indoor worm bin that you can use to convert your kitchen scraps into healthy soil in a hygienic way without any hassles or smells. The vertical migration system makes the composting process seamless by removing the need to manually separate the wormies from the castings (fertilizer). You simply feed them your scraps in the upper bin while harvesting the bottom bin to get the castings.
How does it work?
- Start by adding your kitchen scraps to the bottom bin
- When that bin gets full, stack the 2nd bin on top and continue feeding. Once that it full, you add the third bin.
- The wormies finish eating the scraps from the bottom bin and travel upwards through the mesh in search for fresh food, leaving behind their castings
- When the top bin is almost full, it's time to harvest castings
- Simply remove the bottom bin, empty out the contents, and place it on top of your stack and continue feeding
- By continuously rotating the bins, you will get fresh castings every 3-4 months
Should I get 3 bins or 4 bins?
The 3 bin system is good for an average family of 2 and you can feed the wormies 2-3 kg/week. If you have a bigger family or cook at home a lot, you are better suited for getting 4 bins so you can feed the top two bins together about 3-5 kg/week. Don't worry, you can always buy another layer in the future!
You should avoid feeding the wormies meat or dairy (eggshells are okay) because they smell bad during decomposition. Everything else that comes from the earth can go back into it. For more information, refer to our feeding guide you will receive in your order email.
The Worm Studio is sold disassembled and requires a screwdriver to assemble. It's easier than IKEA, we promise.
Your order includes instructions and access to our online community. Here you can interact with other compost heroes, ask questions and stay motivated in your composting journey. Who's up for a life changing experience?

The webinars are so helpful for getting this right. I actually really enjoy the earthy smell when we feed the worms and add bedding. Excited for how happy the garden will be when we can add compost!
The Box of Life is perfect for what I wanted it for! I live in a building without green waste and hated having to throw my food scraps in the garbage. Now I just feed my little wormy friends. I'm surprised by how easy the whole process is, how much they eat already and, despite having been told this and reading reviews saying this, how much it doesn't smell! I keep the Box of Life in my kitchen and don't have any problems at all with smells or escaping critters. And it looks nicer than so many of the other indoor composting systems I've seen.
Akil also provides so much information and support throughout the whole learning process which makes the set up and care of the system super easy and not at all intimidating!
Also worms kind of creep me out a little bit but unless you go digging for them you barely seen them, even when feeding them, and they're slowly growing on me, so don't discount vermicomposting right off the bat if you, like me, find worms a bit slimy and gross.
Finally, this is perhaps a more minor thing, but seeing how beautifully packed and how great the graphic design on the included instructions is was a great surprise and made unpacking it even more exciting!
Everything about our experience and the product has been perfect so far. Excellent design, clear communications, amazing worms. What more could you ask for?
